Just like fashion, food is constantly going through cultural changes. Whether it’s the popularity of a new ingredient like Avocado, or the rise of a new diet, like Veganism, food trends are always evolving. Meet & Eat is built on a combination of new ideas and classic tradition, which means we’ve always got to keep an eye on what’s new in the culinary world. We’ve found our favorite food trends of 2021 and broken them down so that you can always make sure you’re one step ahead of the latest fad!
The Flexitarian Diet
As vegetarian and vegan diets continue to grow in popularity, more and more people are opting for a way to incorporate more veggies into their diet without saying a permanent goodbye to meat. Enter the “flexitarian” diet, a meal plan that allows prioritizes all things green but still allows for the occasional steak or chicken breast. One of the easiest ways to try flexitarian eating is to choose specific days of the week to go meatless, like the weekends, or the popular “meatless Monday.” Meet & Eat has plenty of meatless options for any diet, as well as burgers, chicken and sandwiches on the days you decide you need a break!
Sustainable Meals
Every year we seem to move closer to our traditional respect for the food we eat and the people who help us eat it. One of 2021’s biggest food trends has been sustainability; from an increase in the popularity of organic fruits and vegetables to a big interest in dining and buying local. Sustainability comes in many different forms, and Meet & Eat shares one of its core tenants: community! We were built on the concept of both sharing with and accepting help from our community, and are very excited to see if this trend is here to stay.
Fresh Bread
At the onset of the pandemic, bread seemed to be on everybody’s mind. After all, who doesn’t love a delicious, warm slice of bread, especially when it’s homemade? From sourdough to biscuits, recipes for everyone from beginners to experts seemed to swarm the internet, but we’re not complaining! Although you can’t bake our bread yourself, we promise to always deliver that warm, fresh taste. It’s all of the rewards with none of the work!
Plant Alternatives
This trend falls in line with others like the flexitarian diet. In 2021, consumers went on the hunt for a plant-based meat alternative that could pack all of the taste into a healthier package. From Impossible meat, which is meant to taste just like the real thing, to veggie burgers, which are flavorful in their own ways, plant-based alternatives are everywhere. Meet & Eat’s own veggie burger is made from a black bean and veggie patty, with avocado, provolone cheese, green chilis, onions, and jalapeño mayo.
All Kinds of Kombucha
Kombucha (or any fizzy drink for that matter), has seen massive popularity this year. The fruity, sparkling drink is a great alternative to soda, and is even renowned for its probiotic properties! Paired with a sandwich, a burger, a taco, or anything else, you can’t go wrong with this tangy drink!
Food trends are ever-evolving, but we promise to always deliver the same fresh, delicious meals we always have. No matter which diet you prefer, what your favorite drink is, or if you’re a master baker or not, we’ve got something you’re guaranteed to love!
